To maintain your provincial health care coverage you must be physically present in your province for a certain period of time. This issue is either talked about a lot or people are unaware its even an issue. When they mean out of the province this would include time spent in other provinces not just other countries. Failure to meet the provincial guidelines will result in loss of coverage. The following outlines the high level requirements for each of the provinces.

The amount time a Canadian national citizen can stay in the USA is six months in any twelve month period. There is still much confusion on a few of the technical issues on how the six months is actually counted.

USA Substantial Presence Test There is always confusion between the number of days one can visit the USA for immigration purposes and the number of days one can stay for tax purposes.

The Canada-U.S. protocol broadened the permanent establishment (PE) definition in several ways. Under one provision, a PE may arise where services are provided by an enterprise that is a resident of one country to customers located in the other country.
